Sites are responsible for paying the monthly management fee of $169/month which covers all services, support, and program upgrades. Additionally, sites pay for the points issued out to customers and will receive a credit for all the points spent at your site.

Excellence in Action

The Excellence in Action program helps drive positive and consistent experiences by supporting your performance in areas proven to impact fuel sales and satisfaction. Once per quarter, a site assessment surveyis conducted to evaluate the site through the eyes of the consumer and to help sites improve on key indicators that lead to repeat business.

  1. The shopper will reveal themselves after completing their inside purchase and present an information sheet to explain more about the site’s participation in the site evaluation program. They will then complete the rest of the survey in the interior of the store and continue the survey of the brand image elements in the forecourt. Please note that shoppers will not be able to communicate or review results during the assessment and will be instructed not to provide any feedback while at the site. If the assessment is refused and not permitted to be completed, the site will receive 0% and will fail the assessment. If the shopper visits the location within posted hours of operation and the site is not open for business and the shopper is unable to perform the assessment, this will also result in 0% and fail the assessment.

  2. Shoppers will be making a purchase inside the store, as well as a fuel purchase outside at the pump.

  3. Shops may be conducted between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., including weekends. Once per year, each site will receive a night shop which may be conducted outside these hours to ensure adequate evaluation of lighting during dark hours.

  4. A passing score for all sites is 85%.

  5. Select questions on the assessment survey are eligible for cure and correction within 30 days to earn back missed points. Appeals may also be submitted using the same process in the event an approved exception is overlooked or for general shop errors. All cures and appeals are subject to review by the IPSOS audit team and must satisfactorily document all corrections are completed within the 30-day time frame and follow standard image guidelines in order to be approved.

  6. The Failure Notification Process is outlined below:
    1. Fail #1 – occurs when the final assessment score for the quarter has not achieved a passing score of 85 or above. Notification of failure will be indicated on the bottom of the quarterly assessment results.
    2. Fail #2 – occurs when the final assessment score for the second consecutive quarter has not achieved a passing score of 85 or above. Notification of second consecutive failure will be indicated on the bottom of the quarterly assessment results.
    3. Fail #3 – occurs when the final assessment score for the quarter has not achieved an 85 or above for the third consecutive quarter. Notification of third consecutive failure will be indicated on the bottom of the quarterly assessment results and a $2,500 fine will be issued. Site will continue to incur additional $2,500 fine for each consecutive quarterly failure thereafter.

The cost for the site assessment survey under the Excellence in Action program is $75 per evaluation, per site. One assessment survey will be conducted per quarter, for a total of 4 evaluations per year.

Brand Compliance

Fuel Rewards

The dealer does have an obligation of 3.5 cents for the discounts redeemed.

Mystery Motorist Program

The Mystery Motorist Program (MMP) is a tool to deliver a consistent end consumer experience at all branded Shell locations. The measurement tool evaluates key focus areas that matter most to customers and identifies how well sites succeed at meeting those expectations across the network. It provides actionable insights to drive improvements in execution.

Mystery Shoppers perform evaluations by appearing as ordinary consumers but are trained to assess how well the Shell Retail Brand Standards are followed, including Site Essentials and Differentiators.

  • The Mystery Shopper arrives unannounced and makes observations in the forecourt before, during, and after purchasing gasoline. The Mystery Shopper then proceeds to the store or kiosk, makes a purchase, evaluates overall cleanliness, interacts with Staff Member(s), and checks the restroom facilities. If the Mystery Shopper cannot locate the restroom, they will ask a Staff Member for assistance.
  • The Mystery Shopper rates execution of Image Essentials, Service Essentials, overall satisfaction, and their likelihood to recommend the site to a friend. During the Mystery Shop, the Mystery Shopper introduces themselves as an Ipsos Mystery Shopper and presents an authorization letter to a Staff Member.
  • The Mystery Shopper then evaluates the site’s execution of Differentiators, including Marketing Programs and Customer Experience Offer elements. Photos are taken to detail observations of each of the 21 customer impact questions, including any non-compliant items.

Each site is assessed in two ways. First, a Pass/Fail result is determined based upon execution of the 13 Site Essential questions, which are split into Image Essentials and Service Essentials.

PASS

The dealer does have an obligation of 3.5 cents for the discounts redeemed.

Fail

1 or more missed Image Essential question(s) or 3 or more missed Service Essential questions.

Consistent delivery of the Site Essentials will drive a superior customer experience at Shell-branded sites.

  • To maintain compliance, sites cannot miss any Image Essentials and can miss no more than 2 Service Essentials within a given shop period. A site missing 1 or more Image Essentials or 3 or more Service Essentials will be deemed to have failed one shop evaluation.

  • Two shop evaluation failures within any three consecutive shop periods will trigger a final shop evaluation during the next shop period.
    • If a site passes the final shop evaluation in the next shop period, the site will not have to enter the debranding process.

    • If the site fails the final shop evaluation in the next shop period, the Wholesaler is eligible to enter into a one-time Settlement Agreement for the site in lieu of debranding.

    • If the Wholesaler has already utilized their one-time Settlement Agreement for the site, the site will then begin the debranding process.

  • A site that fails this final shop evaluation will be deemed to have failed to meet Shell Retail Brand Standards and is subject to enforcement by Shell of all contractual rights and remedies, at law and in equity, including the right to de-identify (debrand) the site.

Shell sites are prohibited from merchandising the following drugs & paraphernalia outlined as follows: pipes, bongs, roach clips, small scales, bath salts, synthetic urine, tianeptine, herbal incense, illegal drugs, marijuana.

No canopy flood lights allowed.
